Tim Laycock has been performing on the folk scene for over 25 years, singing and playing at clubs and festivals with concertina, melodeon and guitar. His repertoire draws on the great tradition of folk song, from sea shanties and ballads to music hall favourites, alongside songs learned directly from singers including Walter Pardon, Peter Bellamy and Tony Hall.
Alongside the traditional material, Tim is also a highly regarded songwriter. Originals such as Row On, Heaven’s a Bar, The Trampwoman’s Tragedy and Courting Round Dorset have been taken up by other performers, including The Yetties, Pint and Dale, Dave Webber & Anni Fentiman, and members of The Voice Squad.
Much of Tim’s writing and storytelling is inspired by his home county of Dorset, giving his work a distinctive West Country character.
“For sheer energy and enthusiasm I can’t think of any better folk performer than Tim Laycock… always presented in his inimitable exuberant style and guarantees to wow audiences wherever he appears.”
— Mike Freemantle, Bodmin Folk Club, Cornwall
